Marremusic :: Bio
bio

Marre was born in Bogota, Colombia. Her real name is Maria del Rosario, but ever since she was little she was nicknamed Marre.

From an early age, she showed a special interest and taste for music of all genres, from classical to popular, so much so that one could say she sang before she spoke and danced before she walked. When she barely started talking and people asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, Marre said she would be a “cantartista” (a “singer-artist”), a word that she invented to describe herself.

Marre received musical training since she was little, with Misi, Adelaida Sorzano, and Charito Acuña, among others. She was later trained in dancing and vocals, guitar, piano and body language, with great couches like Carlos Ramirez, Juan Pablo Villamizar, Ramón Calzadilla, Maria Olga Piñeros, Tatiana Voronetska, Ricardo Carrasquilla, and Leonardo Castañeda.

Besides being a composer, Marre is a songwriter. Her love of reading and poetry has led her to develop a special ability when it comes to writing. For her, writing is like breathing and she can’t think of life without it. Marre wrote her first song at age 4 and she called it “Las Frutas” (“The Fruit”). From that moment, she has written hundreds of songs that tell the story of her life. Her lyrics tell, simply yet deeply, what women and people around her go through.

Ali, her younger sister, has been a part of Marre’s music life. She is the guitarist of Marre’s band, has been an essential support in the development of her career and they have worked together since always, supporting each other and creating new ideas every day.

Marre’s first album was produced by Andrés Múnera, who has worked with artists like Diego Torres, David Bisbal, Carlos Santana and Fanny Lú, just to name a few. Marre’s music has a very unique style that, in addition to her peculiar tone of voice, creates a youthful pop-rock sound, filled with stories that move people from all generations.
